Lynx Squadron

Portuguese Navy operates five Westland Lynx mk. 95 helicopters aboard Vasco da Gama frigates in the roles of antisubmarine warfare, utility, and the deployment and air support to marines. Recently i had the privilege to be invited to visit the squadron at Montijo Air Base, and take some photos during a normal day´s exercice. In this particular day the simulation of a recovery at sea.

Aquired in 1995, the Lynx is a remarkable helicopter, one of its variants was actually the fastest helicopter in the world!. It´s operated by fantastic, dedicated and highly trained crews that give continuity to Portuguese naval aviation history. Go Navy!

Plácido AirCup

Plácido Air Cup took place at Pedrogão Estevão airfield at Santarém city in the first days of June. With the beautifull plane fields of the country side and Tejo river has background, pilots from Portugal and Spain, in a true sports spirit, pushed their mighty machines to the limits.

The championship is named after Portugal´s first aerobatic pilot "Plácido de Abreu", that during the 30´s marveled the public with stunning aerobatic figures.

Here are some of the moments captured by the camera.
